As usual during the election campaign, the excessive zeal of supporters of the UNIR party was further noticed. In some northern towns, Jean Pierre Fabre's ANC party has been hit by some authorities. For the latter, all the reasons are good to hinder the smooth running of the opposition program.
Last week in Gando, an ANC meeting was cancelled by the local prefect on the grounds that the candidate of the UNIR party would also be campaigning in the town.
Such incidents occurred in Dankpen, Bassar and Soutouboua. These behaviours, which can be described as a violation of the rights and freedoms of citizens, have been denounced by the ANC. In a recent statement, the party claims to be the victim of obstacles, disruption of the meetings of candidate Jean Pierre Fabre, repression of peaceful meetings, intimidation, liberticidal measures of prefects, mayors and traditional leaders…
The party members therefore denounced a lack of political will and the manipulation of the current power, guilty of illegal practices. They therefore urged CENI, the Minister of Security and FOSEP/2020 to ensure security to assume their responsibilities in order to ensure the smooth running of the election campaign.
Such behaviour is not new. It is recalled that in the previous presidential election, UNIR activists had found banal excuses to prevent the opposition from campaigning in certain localities.
