In the run-up to the upcoming presidential election, a two-day training course is being held for media professionals. It is therefore under the initiative of the Togolese Patronate of the Press that some forty Togolese journalists meet from 17 to 18 January 2020 in Lomé to strengthen their capacity and acquire new knowledge that will enable them to play fully their score for a quiet election on 22 February.
“Media contribution in preventing violence and promoting the culture of peace during togo’s 2020 presidential election” is the turn of this theme that journalists gather for these two days of training in the capital Togolese. By providing this training to journalists, the TPP has set itself the goal of equipping media professionals on the legal basis and exercise of the right to communication, national legal bases and the responsibilities of the press in its together during the election period.
Beyond the knowledge of the texts, their understanding is essential especially for the men of the media who are given the fourth power. Making two moves with one stone, during this training, tPP officials will also explain to their colleagues the content of the new Collection of Legal and Regulatory Instruments of the 2020 Presidential Election made available to them. and which they will use to practice their craft according to the rules of the art in this delicate period.
It should therefore be remembered that the electoral and post-election periods are moments par excellence when we note not only the upsurge of violence in all its forms but also some slippages in the ranks of journalists who are likely to inflame the situation. So this training would allow this trade to be ready to play the appeasement card before, during and after the february 22 election.
