Initially scheduled for this Tuesday, April 14, the resumption of classes will not be effective in Togo.  In response to coronavirus, the government has taken a number of measures, including the closure of schools and universities in the country. Given the ever-increasing evolution of the pandemic, the resumption of prices is not possible at this time. But the school year will not be white. New strategies will soon be adopted to ensure continuity of courses. In any case, this is what the Minister of Primary and Secondary Education, Affoh Atcha-Dédji, meant during his speech on a television programme.

The question of the possibility of a white school year had been a question for some time. In an address on a private television channel in the square, Minister Affoh Atcha-Dédji of primary and secondary education lifted the veil on the issue.

"At the moment we cannot say that the year is in jeopardy," he said, before explaining that teachers have made significant progress in the curriculum and that only a quarter of the courses are left. Therefore, a white year is not an option.

However, to ensure the continuity of these courses, the Minister announced the possibility of delivering the courses via the internet and the various local media.  Learners will be able to take classes on the radio, TV and the Internet from their homes.

"Since then, we have been thinking about palliatives. We have been in discussions with the actors of the education system to see what can be done if the health situation continues. And here we have solutions that we will implement. So I can say there are three ways. We have the internet, radio and television. There will be courses that will be delivered on TV directly, via smartphone and radio applications. We will focus on exam classes. We're going to make sure everyone has access to classes to practice at home," he said.

As far as the reopening of schools is concerned, everything will depend on the evolution of the pandemic, he added.

In the same vein, the president of Lomé University, Dodji Kokoroko announced online courses for undergraduate and master's students on 11 April.  In this way, they will be able to take the courses from home and finish the year in peace.

The Social and Collaborative Network of the University of Lomé (Rescoul), the platform set up two years ago to ensure the digitalization of information will be used for this purpose. "The Rescoul, which has proven its worth in two years of use, will be called upon to allow undergraduate and master's students to continue to take courses," said the president of the University of Lomé.

At this time, the Minister has not commented on the dates of the major reviews. We will certainly be over in the days ahead.
