ANADEB (National Agency for Development Support at the grassroots), in accordance with the road map implemented, its project of social safety nets and basic services (FSB) which it ensures the execution, started yesterday in the locality from Tsévié an information and awareness workshop on the establishment of an RSU (Single Social Register). It was mainly a question of sensitizing the chiefs of the cantons, the community actors at the base and the media on the merits of the adoption of such a device in the process of poverty reduction in Togo. These actors will in turn be able to educate the Togolese population on this new device.
In his word of welcome, the prefect of Zio, Etsè Kodjo, wished to recall the context of the establishment of the Single Social Register in Togo. According to the Ministry of Basic Development, he said, “in Togo targeting the poorest and most vulnerable in order to ensure the relevance of their eligibility for programs and projects of social assistance and social safety nets, remains a predominant concern of national actors and development partners ”hence the need for an RSU.
Indeed, according to the provisional president of the RSU, Ferdinand GANI, it has been seen that the intervention of multitudes of social projects at the population level is not done in a rational, scientific and consensual way. This causes risks of duplication, duplication of the same project in the same locality and for the same brief beneficiaries situations of irregularity in certain localities.
Also, in her speech, the director of ANADEB, Mazalou KATANGA, raised the difficulties faced by the agents on the ground, in particular the problem of identifying the poorest village: “In the execution of our programs like for example cash transfer, we have a lot of trouble identifying the poorest households. We draw lots, and sometimes we sometimes draw the least needy village, ”she deplored.
In view of all these problems, the RSU, which is an information system made up of a database collecting the socio-economic and demographic profiles and characteristics of households in a country, is the device to adopt. It will effectively target social interventions and programs to the poorest and most needy populations and households. Clearly, the establishment of such a social protection system has several advantages for the Togolese population and even for the government. The RSU allows the government to better execute initiatives in the direction of social solidarity.
The RSU will allow, not only for the clear identification of vulnerable people but also “to have a better visibility of the actions of the State, an effectiveness and an efficiency of the actions and interventions of the State of these partners” added Ferdinand Koffi GANI

Furthermore, remember that the awareness campaign will continue in the other chief towns, namely Atakpamé, Sokodé, Kara and Dapaong on 9, 10, 11, 12 and 13 December 2019. The campaign will end with the Lomé stage on 19 December. It is everyone’s responsibility to be actively involved in this awareness-raising campaign to end extreme poverty in Togo.
