Doctors after death

The leaders of the Methodical, Presbyterian and Catholic Evangelical Churches met on 22 April to discuss the socio-political situation of the country. At the same time, it is to find a way to pacify the political climate that has been deteriorating since the arrest of Gabriel Agbéyomé, who was second in the presidential election on 22 February. Thus, at the end of their meeting, these men of God agreed on mediation between the various actors in an attempt to put an end to this post-election crisis.

To achieve this, the leaders of these religious congregations plan to meet the key players in the Togolese political scene in this case the Head of State, members of the Dynamic Bishop Kpodzro and the leaders of the ANC Political Party. It is a way of reaping the concerns of each other for a peaceful resolution of this crisis.

Although these clerics have expressed their desire to find a favourable solution to this crisis, they have also set a precondition that could make their business easier. No doubt this is the request for the release of Agabyome. "The release of Mr. Agbéyomé Kodjo would facilitate the steps taken," the statement sanctioning their meeting reads.

The church has always been politically active in Togo. In the past, it has played a key role in resolving the country's socio-political crises. However, in recent years it has been criticized by some political actors according to their political edges.

Togo's socio-political situation has become tense since the arrest three days ago of Gabriel Agbéyomé, who continues to claim his victory in the presidential election of 22 February 2020.

This situation had been smoldering since 22 February when the presidential election was held. Religious leaders allowed the situation to rot before engaging in any mediation. It's called, doctors after death.

I can't wait for their appeal to be heard and for the political differences to be ironed out so that all Togolese people face the urgency of the day, fight against Covid-19.
