The United Friends and Sympathizers Association (CASU) is working hard to combat the spread of the Corona virus pandemic on Togolese soil. It makes its modest contribution to the relief of populations in this period of health crisis. On Saturday, May 02, a delegation of the association was touring the commune of Yoto2 with donations of materials to comply with barrier measures and also food kits for vulnerable people. An instantly coupled outreach operation.
It sounded 7am, the kits were on board, the vehicles started in front of the house of the head of delegation Mrs. Thérèse ADJEWODA. But the delegation was not yet complete. We're going to have to go through GTA's Total station to look for the others. What was done.
It was then that the race to the rural commune of Yoto2 began. About a hundred kilometers to reach the town of Ahépé and Zafi in Yoto Prefecture. The government's measures to combat Covid-19 oblige. A stopover in Davié was certain since it was mandatory. Long-distance traffic is now conditioned by the presentation of a Pass. The CASU delegation held with it only a mission order signed by the president of the association. The control system was of course in place about 1km from the Davié toll road. The first elements of the security forces who had known that the delegation did not have an official regular pass did not want to hear any explanation. For them, there is no choice but to turn back. They were visibly overexcited unlike their superior who took care to listen to some CASU officials who had gone to him.
After explaining the merits of the trip to the head of the checkpoint, after checking the kits and masks to ensure that it was a noble mission in the direction of the fight against Covid-19, the CASU delegation was finally allowed to continue its journey. About 60 kilometres remain to reach Ahépé, a township in Yoto2, the first leg of CASU's tour.
Without any worries, the casU members had arrived in Ahépé. The planned donations were intended for the local Medical and Social Centre. The medical assistant was waiting for them at the CMS, a more or less modest medical and social centre. Without delay, the delegation was received in the office of assistant Fabrice TOGBEDJI to whom the members of the delegation were presented. Then the state assistant proceeded to receive the kits. Kits consisting of fifteen (15) 1.5 litre cans of detergents and a few dozen masks for health care workers. This donation was therefore intended to help strengthen compliance with barrier measures in this health centre. "This gift came at the right time. For infection prevention and control, we have doubled or even tripled our budget because we need enough soap and mask… This support comes at its fair value to reduce our expenses at these times of the pandemic" confided assistant Fabrice TOGBEDJI, head of the CMS Ahépé.
As the stage of the CMS Ahépé has passed, the CASU delegation went to Zafi, one of the three cantons that make up the commune of Yoto2. Not only is it the smallest canton in the municipality in terms of area, but also the most landlocked. Located 3km from Ahépé, about 20 minutes was enough to get there. There, CASU's action was divided into two phases. A portion of the donations went to the local CMS, and the other part went to the vulnerable.
As at CMS Ahépé, a handwashing system was in place at the ZAfi CMS, which requires detergent as every visitor has to wash their hands at the entrance. CASU also offered fifteen (15) 1.5-litre cans of detergent and about 40 masks. Don received by the assistant FELLI Ayaovi, who did not hide his gratitude to the association while calling for the good will to do the same. "It is a joy for us and for the canton of Zafi to receive this donation from the association CASU… I urge people of good will to assist health centres, vulnerable people especially in protective equipment in this time of pandemic. FELLI Ayaovi, the head of the CMS.
The second phase was carried out under the background of raising awareness and distributing locally-made food kits and masks to the most vulnerable people in the community. A total of sixty fourth-age people benefited from these food kits consisting of rice, oil and animal protein, plus a few loaves of soap for hand washing and masks to protect themselves. This kit delivery operation was always preceded by an awareness where these people were told of the need to comply with barrier measures to protect themselves from Covid-19.
Satisfaction was read on the faces of the beneficiaries who did not hesitate to express their joy with cheers. "They came not only to talk to us about pandemic prevention measures, but they also gave us different gifts. We can only thank them. one of the beneficiaries said.
The global health crisis has not spared Togo. Only a collective commitment of his sons and daughters can help to get out of this difficult situation. This has been understood by CASU since the state of health emergency was declared in the country. "Everyone knows that our country is affected by the coronavirus pandemic. That's why we went to raise awareness among the populations of these two cantons and at the same time offer donations of protective materials to CMS and food kits to vulnerable people… CASU does not yet have a sponsor, everything is done thanks to the personal contributions of the members. delivered Ms. Thérèse ADJEWODA to the microphone of the newspaper The Independent Express.
CASU has always carried out humanitarian actions since its inception. And it is also committed to combating the spread of Coronavirus in Togolese territory. We still remember, a few weeks ago, she was in the commune of Zio3 with donations to help set up hand-washing devices in public places of this commune. The goal remained the same: CASU says STOP to Covid-19.
