Agbéyomé Kodjo loses parliamentary immunity

(independantexpress.net)

It is done, Agbéyomé Kodjo no longer enjoys parliamentary immunity. The MPDD MP and self-proclaimed president of the presidential election of 22 February is now at the disposal of the judiciary.

At a plenary session on Monday, parliamentarians lifted the immunity of the dynamic candidate Kpodzro. 80 out of 90 MPs gave their OK for Tokpli's child to be stripped of his immunity.

"We just have to answer the question, do we have to be able to give justice and Colleague Agbéyomé Kodjo the opportunity to go and defend themselves? The court wanted the immunity to be lifted in order for the prosecution to be initiated, the Member also needs this lifting in order to defend himself in the face of justice. So we are only doing what is required by the National Assembly as an institution under the Constitution and our internal rules to allow justice to do its job," said Yawa Tsegan, president of the National Assembly.

He is facing several charges. Examples include attacks on the internal security of the state, the use of state insignia, illegal appointments and slanderous assertions.

Initially initiated by the Prosecutor of the Republic, it was finally the Attorney General at the Supreme Court who took over the proceedings.

At a press conference this afternoon in Lomé, the protector of Agbéyom Kodjo, Monsignor Philippe Fanoko KPODZRO calls for resistance and asks every citizen to do what is his power for the truth of the ballot box.

Regarding the probable arrest of Messan Agbéyom Kodjo, the archbishop emeritus of Lomé persists: "It is on my corpse that they will march to arrest him.
