Port of Lomé: Moîse AKAYA enhances performance

In an interview to be read on Tuesday in the newspaper L’Indépendant Express, the Head of Customs at the Autonomous Port of Lomé, Colonel Moses AKAYA, discusses the major innovations made to the autonomous port of Lomé in the fight against covid19, and spoke about the various reforms undertaken within the lung of the Togolese economy in improving its performance.

The autonomous port of Lomé is not on the margins of the various reforms required by the advent of coronavirus.  In this radio interview, Mr.  Akaya said that the barrier measures to know: wearing masks, taking temperature and distance were scrupulously respected, even more so in the offices “We are also working to ensure that there is not too much crowding in the offices”

Apart from the barrier gestures that change work and other habits, AKAYA spoke about the various reforms undertaken by the port, which include the digitization of documents.

Compared to the certificate of origin, for example, it was a combatant’s journey: “Before, you would have to go to the management level of the industry, get the certificate of origin application form signed and then go through customs. It’s a whole journey that needs to be done,” he said.

Thus, the port has innovated in document management. For a process that took days, it is now done in one (1) hour “Before it takes 48 hours now in less than one hour, we have already issued the certificate of origin online.”

In addition, to always appear more efficient, and meet the needs of its customers, the port has expanded its staff.

“So compared to all these difficulties related to the space of the dump, I mean the medians, we can no longer receive all the containers for the deposits at once. There is a committee that has been set up to deal with these difficulties. It identifies all the difficulties encountered and provides appropriate solutions.”

AKAYA Moses said that he was close to his partners at this difficult time and that the reforms put in place for the port on will be truly felt after the health crisis. The port division is a togolese revenue department, OTR.  Colonel Akaya is working to strengthen the business climate by anticipating the consequences of the pandemic crisis of COVID 19.

Consequences that, according to Moses Akaya, will be cushioned by the anticipatory provisions of the Togolese authorities.
